Details:
We have a family care home on Quadra Island that looks after 2 adult men with developmental and physical disabilities. We are seeking an interested, kind, strong individual to become part of our care team in providing a good life for one of these men, both in-home and as part of the community. You would be working 1:1 most of the time with one man but there may be some caregiving of both men at times. This is a full-time (37 hrs/wk), long-term job and paid training is quite extensive. No experience in care is required as all training will be provided and is quite specific to the individuals.
Preference will be given to those who live on Quadra Island. Pay is $15/hr for the first 6-8 weeks and then regular rates are $20/hr. After 1 year the pay rate goes up to $21.50/hr.
The training would involve:
-Communication with a deaf/blind individual
-Dealing with seizures and severe allergies
-How to do tube-feeding
-Giving medications
-Documenting events of the day and medications given
-Physical care for both adults
-Dealing with difficult and/or aggressive behaviour at home and in public
-$130/month is given towards your cell phone plan
-One day off a month, with pay
Qualifications & Experience:
Requirements:
-Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract
-Current driver's licence
-First Aid and CPR will be paid for if you are not already certified
-Must be physically fit
