Island Health is looking for a temporary full-time Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper
As the Maintenance Worker/Groundkeeper, you will operate, repair, and maintain buildings, building systems, appliances, machines and grounds for a multi-site operation. More specifically, you will:
• Operate and maintain HVAC and other building systems as necessary, including starting and stopping equipment, reading meters and gauges, and manipulating system controls and valves. Troubleshoots and repairs systems as required.
• Replace and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets; repairs water supply and waste lines, and unplug plumbing, as well as replace tap washers.
• Provide building and furniture repairs and maintenance by applying materials such as fasteners, drywall, paneling, floor and ceiling coverings, filler, paint and other covering materials. Transport and move heavy furniture and/or equipment manually or by using various aides such as dollies or carts
• Perform maintenance on equipment and appliances, such as sterilizers, washers, dryers, wheelchairs, beds and carts by disassembling, cleaning, oiling, greasing, replacing broken or worn parts, such as filters, bearings, seals, shafts, and reassembling equipment
• Answer service and emergency calls for systems such as fire, medical air, vacuum, medical gasses, heliport, ice and snow removal, electric power back up, heating, communications and various security systems and procedures.
The District of Mount Waddington
Mount Waddington encompasses the northern third of Vancouver Island and a large area of the adjacent mainland. With a population of approximately 12,000, this area includes the scenic coastal towns of Port Hardy and Port McNeill. Port Hardy boasts a broad range of services and retail outlets. Campbell River, the nearest major centre is approximately 2-3 hours to the south while the city of Victoria is approximately 7 hours away by road.
