Quatsino First Nation is located on Northern Vancouver Island, our community has an approximate population of 250 people. We are located 13 kilometres from Port Hardy.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill our Youth and Family Navigator position. This position is full-time and is meant to support youth and families who need support and guidance related to involvement with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). While the focus will be on helping youth in care transition, there may be a need to support families who may be involved with MCFD.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Attending meetings with families/youth who may need advocacy with MCFD
• Create positive and visionary plans with youth for transitioning out of care
• Support youth who may be on probation or have other involvement with the justice system
• Conduct groups for various family groups to ensure supports are in place
• Mediate in conflict or crisis situations for families
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and work will be conducted out of the Quatsino First Nation’s Band office.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications and experience:
• A certificate, diploma, or degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Care program
• Minimum 1-year experience working in a similar position
• Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
• Familiarity in working with MCFD
• Excellent written and verbal communications
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
• Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and residential schools
• Valid class 5 drivers licence
