Applications are invited for the position of Casual Maintenance Tradesperson (Painter), on an as needed basis, effective as soon as possible after the posting and recruitment process is completed.

Duties:
1. Carries out painting work including the use of various powered equipment.
2. Develop a close liaison with other staff so that a team approach is developed in the operation of schools and painting maintenance work.
3. Works from oral and/or written instruction and to established procedures, including ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
4. Uses hand and power tools / equipment and materials associated with performing assigned duties, cleans and stores tools and equipment as required.
5. Responds to emergency situations when required.
6. Provides his or her own personal tools and safety footwear.
7. Other duties as assigned.

The rate of pay for this position is in accordance with the current collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 723.
Qualifications & Experience: 
Required Qualifications:
1. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate orally in English.
2. Must hold a valid B.C. TQ and/or interprovincial TQ ticket as a painter.
3. Minimum two years of recent full-time equivalent commercial/residential painting experience (approximately 3500 hrs.) as a painter, including brush, roller and spray.
4. Successful completion of courses in WHMIS and Fall Protection preferred.
5. Physical ability to perform all assigned tasks, including heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs.
6. Have a clear understanding of all painting related procedures and equipment.
7. Ability to establish and maintain a satisfactory relationship with school administration, parents, staff and students.
8. Ability to work at heights including a ladder, scaffold or scissor lift.
9. Ability to organize work.
10. Hold a valid B.C. Driver’s License Class 5 minimum.
11. Ability to use personal protective equipment.
12. Grade 12 Diploma.
