Job Description:
The maintenance department at Nimmo Bay Resort has two skilled team members on at any one time. One of them is skilled in carpentry or a general trade and the other has a deep knowledge of engine mechanics. Both maintenance technicians perform routine and preventative maintenance to maintain the physical and mechanical integrity of the infrastructure at Nimmo Bay Resort. They conduct building and mechanical repairs and are responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of property grounds, facilities, equipment, and various utility systems. Nimmo Bay Resort runs off the grid for electrical power that is serviced with a small hydro system (pelton wheel) as well as diesel generators, hot water is heated with propane and there is a waste treatment plant for all black water. The maintenance technicians provide excellent customer service to prospective and current guests and fellow team members and may assist with curious guest inquiries about the facilities from time to time. Maintenance technicians are encouraged to provide ongoing, meaningful ideas and recommendations to improve the quality and efficiency of the department and overall resort function. Position reports directly to the on-site Maintenance Manager.
Pay & Benefits:
Starting wage will be $300 a day based on a 10 hour shift. *Starting wage based on accreditation and experience - wage negotiable. Food, accommodation and transportation from Port McNeill is provided.
Responsibilities of Trade Maintenance Technician:
-Prioritize daily walk-throughs and general repairs.
-Trouble-shooting and diagnostics ability with skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.
-Determine when a subcontractor needs to be brought in for a repair.
-Up-keep of routine maintenance schedules and repairs as assigned.
-Keep maintenance manager and owners up to date on systems.
-Work as a team with other Maintenance Technicians.
-Monitor and maintain systems: electrical, plumbing, boats, heating, water.
-Assist Maintenance Manager with the supervision of any service contractors.
-Responding to team members and guests who report problems with equipment or facilities (common).
-Clean and tidy the grounds of the property to maintain resort standards, curb appeal, as required.
-Maintain and record all duties in regard to resort spas (hot tubs), and domestic water; including testing chemical levels, to adjust appropriately, where applicable, to meet resort health and safety standards.
-Maintain and report on company boats, vehicles, and equipment.
-Maintain our hydroxyl septic treatment plant and water treatment plant.
-Carry out assigned duties as part of the Preventative Maintenance Schedule, achieving standards required by the property and company policy.
-Minimize downtime for all systems, boats and equipment.
-Minor administrative duties, such as keeping a record of reported problems, updating maintenance logs, ordering parts, etc.
-Assembling furniture and/or equipment.
-Ordering supplies and maintaining an inventory of frequently used parts and equipment or sourcing required parts.
-Opening and closing hot tubs and amenity areas, along with testing spas accordingly and providing spa maintenance where necessary.
-Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications:
-Organized and a self-starter.
-May be required to lift or move up to 100lbs.
-Able to stand, walk, use hands and arms, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, and endure all seasonal weather conditions.
-Demonstrated knowledge and broad experience in general maintenance techniques and repair work.
-Proficient in a specific trade and general knowledge of all trades.
-Pool Chemical Certificate, an asset (will offer training to successful candidate).
-Proficient skills in operating various hand tools, power equipment, and commercial machinery.
-Basic computer proficiency.
-Ability to work alone or in groups.
-A high level of First Aid (will offer training to successful candidate).
