ABOUT US:
The Campbell River Hospice Society provides compassionate and caring end-of-life and grief support to children and adults through the support of trained volunteers and generous donors.
POSITION:
The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and works in coordination with the other hospice staff to ensure program and service quality is delivered to all clients and volunteers of the hospice society.
As a Volunteer Coordinator for the Campbell River Hospice Society (CRHS), you will report to the Executive Director and develop, plan, coordinate and manage the volunteer program and activities. You will perform outreach to various community services and groups to promote volunteer opportunities for the hospice care center.
• Determines need for volunteer services with the patient/family/caregiver and entire hospice team.
• Supervises and evaluates volunteers
• Responsible for selecting, recruiting, interviewing, screening, assigning, and coordinating patient volunteers.
• Conduct an initial assessment of the client and family needs appropriate for volunteer support.
• Develops and maintains the volunteer orientation program.
• Manage the volunteer mentorship program
• Maintains current volunteer personnel files and coordinates and supports continuing education of volunteers
• Attends Interdisciplinary Team meetings as indicated and participates in the development and revision of patients’ plans of care regarding volunteer services.
• Ensure volunteer policy and procedures are adhered to
• Maintain open lines of communication with volunteers, patients, and family members.
• Ensure a high level of care and compassion.
• Evaluate and counsel volunteers on their performance as needed.
• Keep accurate documentation of volunteer assignments including documentation of hours served on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Respond to arising needs for volunteer support of projects and activities of the organization when assistance is requested and be available by phone or in person for the volunteers to discuss their role with activities, patients, and families.
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills in relating to patients and families, volunteers, team members, and the community.
• Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and attend other staff meetings as appropriate providing presentation for patient volunteers as needed.
• Actively participate in organization-wide quality management.
• Assure appropriate electronic documentation.
• Participation and marketing in public relations and community activities that promote the organization and its role as an effective member of the hospice and healthcare delivery system as well as customer service promotion.
• Must be available during normal work hours (unless previously approved by direct supervisor). Additional hours may be required to complete normal business functions and/or projects. All overtime hours are repaid by time in lieu.
• Perform other duties as requested or required, in the sole discretion of the CRHS.
General Hours of Work: Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm (days and time can fluctuate depending on need, determined by CRHS.)
Qualifications & Experience:
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• Certificate in Social Services or Volunteer Management, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience;
• Minimum 2 years successful experience coordinating volunteers, preferably in the health or social services field;
• Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of volunteering and volunteer program management standards;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Access or other volunteer management databases are of value)
• Able to manage multiple projects, work independently and as part of a small team;
• Knowledge of End of Life and Bereavement issues and experience with the mental health system an asset.
• Ability to organize and develop volunteer hospice personnel for both patient and family needs.
• Previous experience in hospice and/or related healthcare setting is preferred.
