This 13.5 hour per-week position (with a possibility of more hours in the future) provides individual or group counselling for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in their relationships, or childhood abuse. The Women’s Counsellor assists women in identifying, understanding, and overcoming the effects of violence in their lives. The position works closely with the Women’s Safe Shelter program and Women’s Outreach.
Duties include providing counselling and emotional support to women, developing and delivering public awareness/information sessions and educational support materials; maintaining positive relationships with other service providers and agency team. It is critical that this person be able to demonstrate ethical thinking, respecting the diversity of our North Island community.
A valid driver’s license and own vehicle, as well as a successful completion of a criminal record check are required. Winter tires are required October 1 – March 31. As a member of our team you will work in a supportive, flexible environment. Wage is $26 - $28/hr, depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications & Experience:
A degree, preferably a Master’s, in Counselling or related field, or an appropriate combination of education and training. Should have sound knowledge and understanding in the area of violence against women and children. Preferred background should include direct counselling experience with women who have experienced abuse. Other assets would be analysis, knowledge and training in trauma counselling; knowledge of First Nations culture; experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
